Can I exercise with my hair extensions?

Hair should be tied in a ponytail or plait, avoid wearing in a messy bun. Brush hair thoroughly as directed before and after activities and apply leave in conditioner.

Can I use heat styling on my hair extensions?

Heated styling tools (hair dryers curlers, straighteners etc.) can be used on safely on human hair extensions. You should exercise with the same care you would use with your natural hair. Always use a heat protection product. Avoid using heat directly on the extension bonds

Can I color, tone or bleach my hair extensions?

Since Swank Hair Extensions are 100% Remy Human Hair, they are able to be colored to your desired shade just like natural hair. However, we strongly do not recommend coloring the hair extensions lighter, as the hair has already undergone color processing and bleaching the hair to achieve a lighter shade is a very harsh chemical process. This can damage the quality of your hair extensions, and result in more tangling and matting due to severe damage to the hair cuticles.

If you plan on coloring your hair extensions, we advise starting with a lighter shade and coloring the hair darker to achieve your desired shade and better maintain the integrity of your hair extensions.

I always recommend consulting with a professional hair colourist, who has previous experience working with hair extensions. It is best to trust the colouring, toning, or blending in their experienced hands. We also advise testing on a portion of the hair extensions prior to colouring or toning the entire hair extensions just to ensure the desired results.

Hair colour can cause hair extensions to slip out. Also hair extensions can react differently to hair dye to natural hair. For predictable results, avoid colouring hair extensions. Root touch ups can be done (very carefully) around hair extensions if the bonds and hair extensions are avoided

The coloring and toning recommendations please don’t not hesitate at ask as we customize color hair extensions

Can I swim with my hair extensions?

Yes you can still enjoy swimming whilst wearing our hair extensions. Prior to swimming apply leave in conditioner and tie hair back in a loose plait/ponytail. Immediately afterwards untie hair, rinse thoroughly with clean water, gently squeeze, towel dry and apply a leave in conditioner. Do not leave hair to dry in bun or plait. Regular exposure to salt water and chlorine can be drying on hair extensions. Always following up with a deep conditioning treatment to replenish hair extensions

How do i minimize shedding and tangling?

Slight shedding and tangling is normal for all hair extensions. You may experience shedding differently base on which installation method, texture of the extensions, and hair product you use. You can minimize shedding/hair-fallout, by maintaining your hair extensions with great care, make sure to brush them before and after use.

As for tangling, just like your natural hair, hair extensions can and may tangle. Tangling can be cause by many reasons. Humid weather, using the wrong hair products, not enough maintenance, or using heat tools without heat protective products can cause tangling over time.

To minimize tangling you can start with brushing your hair extension 2-3 times with a detangling brush. Make sure any hair product you use is alcohol-free, sulfate-free, and paraben-free. These chemicals can dry out your hair extension which lead to tangling and matting. Make sure to use heat protective spray before styling with any heat tools. Develop a good night time routine. Brush your hair and put into a braid or a loose ponytail, you can also wear a silk cap before going to bed. Treat your hair extension like your own hair, maintenance is the key to have long lasting hair extension.

Shedding is just the nature of the beast, however if at any point you do become concerned, contact your hair extensionist. A professional hair extensionist will have many years of experience in dealing with this, and will be able to answer any questions you might have, and really just put your mind at ease.

The key to hair extensions is also in finding a professional, reliable, hair extension specialist who is fully qualified, knowledgeable, and practiced. A simple look in the classifieds or social media platforms, and you will be bombarded with people claiming to be qualified specialists, so do your research and find somebody you feel good about and you’ll have no worries.
